In 2003, Copenhagen Jazz Orchestra, then known as The Orchestra, embarked on an innovative project titled “Beats & Bigband,” collaborating with Danish electronic music producer Anders Trentemøller. This groundbreaking endeavor sought to merge the rich textures of live big band jazz with the pulsating rhythms of electronic music, creating a unique and contemporary soundscape.
The album features a blend of original compositions and jazz standards, reimagined through the lens of electronic music. Notable tracks include “Expansion,” co-composed by Lars Møller and Anders Trentemøller, and a club remix of the same track, highlighting the seamless integration of jazz improvisation with electronic beats.
Recorded live at Copenhagen Jazzhouse on October 24th, 2002, the performances capture the spontaneous energy and synergy between the musicians and the electronic elements. The project stands as a testament to Copenhagen Jazz Orchestra’s commitment to exploring new musical territories and pushing the boundaries of traditional big band jazz.
