In February 2022, Copenhagen Jazz Orchestra collaborated with acclaimed German pianist and composer Florian Weber to present “The Spirit of Breath,” a project that delved into the profound significance of breath in both music and life. Conceived during the global pandemic, the project reflected on the challenges and renewed appreciation for the simple act of breathing.
Artistic Director Lars Møller composed new pieces specifically for this collaboration, intertwining them with Weber’s innovative improvisations. The fusion of Møller’s compositions and Weber’s contemporary jazz style resulted in a performance that was both introspective and expansive, highlighting the versatility and depth of the jazz orchestra.”The Spirit of Breath” was performed at Den Sorte Diamant (The Black Diamond) in Copenhagen as part of the Vinterjazz Festival 2022. The concert offered audiences a contemplative experience, emphasizing the essential nature of breath through a harmonious blend of orchestral jazz and modern improvisation.
